This website has been created as a source for those undertaking genealogical research and everyone interested in Whroo.
The Interment register was first published by James and Nicola Thomson Feb 1996.
This updated and revised Register has been republished by Nicola Thomson August 2013.
Undertaking a research project such as this has taken many hours of painstaking record searching following accepted historical disciplines which are recognised worldwide.
The fundamental rule being "never assume".
Historical research cannot be guesswork, particularly when working with cemeteries, and therefore all known PRIMARY documentary evidence has been used , collected and compiled over nearly twenty years and some of these sources are no longer readily available .Secondary sources have enabled me to cross reference family details drawing on over 500 family histories and personal documents from those descended from the Whroo pioneers.
No source is ever 100% correct , and Whroo is no exception . Where the details conflict drastically or cannot be confirmed the information has not been included.
The deserted mining town of Whroo is similar to others , people came searching for gold. Some succeeded but many did not and the death rate , particularly in infants , was high.
My thanks go to:
